New URL for the Aviary suite: advanced.aviary.com

Hi Aviators!

Over the last few months Aviary has moved in a very different direction from its advanced suite of flash tools. As we continuously make modifications to the site (and especially the homepage) to support the new developer-focused direction, we struggled to still make it super clear to our existing users about how to access the current suite of tools, without diluting our message to our developer audience.

We realized that in trying to support two very different products on the homepage, we aren’t actually doing a particularly good job at helping either one out. So rather than try to continue to cater to two different audiences on one page, we’re going to split them into their own individual websites.

1) http://www.Aviary.com will be exclusively targeted for developers considering our embeddable photo-editing apps. We are going to deprecate developers.aviary.com (since all of the content from that site will be incorporated into www.aviary.com).

2) http://Advanced.Aviary.com will now be the new URL for our advanced suite of tools.

This will help make everything easy to find and mean that each product can have its own completely separate website (including look, feel and marketing copy). We feel this is the right approach, especially considering it has worked for us with AviaryEducation.com.

You can go update your bookmarks now. As a heads up, there’s a new Aviary.com homepage coming out in early January that will take this change into account, so at that point you will probably want to start using Advanced.Aviary.com as your Aviary homepage if you only use our advanced suite.

As always, cheerio and Happy Holidays!

Roc and Myna Users: Get a Premium SoundCloud Account 15% Off

When you create beats on Roc or edit mashups in Myna, you probably want to share them with your friends across the Internet. You may have noticed that since last year, we’ve integrated SoundCloud to offer you even more awesome features. Today, we’ve taken it a step further.

Now, SoundCloud is offering Aviary users 15% off (woot!) for premium SoundCloud accounts. What does a premium SoundCloud account get you? For starters, it lets you upload from 4 hours of music (900 Roc creations!) to unlimited music, and it gives you extra control over your privacy settings. It also gives you new widgets to share your music and unlimited downloads. See their premium account comparison page for more details.

To get the discount, just insert this code when you upgrade: SoundsOfAviary

We’ve made it super easy to share your tracks on SoundCloud. You can publish your Roc and Myna songs straight to SoundCloud by checking the box during the save process.

Just make sure you add your creations to our public SoundCloud group, Created with Aviary Apps. Just click the ‘Share a Track’ button on our group page! This group will showcase your creativity to the musical community, and it will allow other users to do awesome things like insert comments at specific parts of your track and get updates on your new creations.

Side note: Roc and Myna have also been added to Soundcloud’s App Gallery!

Blackbox Collection: Box 1

This week’s Blackbox will warp your images into the shape of a box. Well, technically it’s more of a package, which makes this a perfect way to visualize how your design will look on a package! You can use it with a texture to get an idea of how it could look applied to a 3D object… or you could just have fun inventing a new breakfast cereal box! Experiment and have fun.  As always, feel free to post your awesome creations in the forums.

Just search for “Box 1″ in the Blackbox browser (Go to File -> Import Blackbox) and start making awesome creations!

Tip Tuesday: Getting started with Peacock

Peacock is an awesome application – and my first love on Aviary! However, it can be a bit daunting for new users to jump into. This week’s video is a quick primer on how Peacock works. If you still have questions after watching the video, you should head on over to the Aviary forums and ask for some tips from our awesome community :)

Blackbox Collection: Blue Print

This week’s Blackbox will give your images a blueprint type of effect. You image will be converted to a textured hatch fill with defined edges. It’s great for giving your images a technical look. Also, like many other Blackboxes, you can adjust it to give you lots of different looks. The only limit is your creativity!

Just search for “Blue print” in the Blackbox browser (Go to File -> Import Blackbox) and start making awesome creations!
