Mobile Spotlight: iSocialize

We recently launched our photo-editing SDK, a mobile version of our popular web-based simple photo editor. With the rapid growth of social mobile applications, chances are your iPhone’s starting to get a little crowded: you’ve got Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and then some. Before you give your thumbs another daily workout from status updates, tweeting, checking in, or swiping back and forth between apps, consider this: what if you could have access to all of those social networks in the same place? The more streamlined, the better — right? iSocialize certainly thinks so.

Download the iPhone app here!

Rest your weary fingers: you can text, email, share any sort of multimedia, and access all your social apps in one place. iSocialize has the full Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ apps — no more shoddy UIs from subpar third parties! Share images, music, locations, and YouTube videos on the platform, as well as animated emoticons and SMS art. When we say iSocialize is all-encompassing, we mean it. That’s one of the many reasons  why it was featured in Apple’s All-Time Top Paid apps.

To see Aviary’s integration with iSocialize, tap on Camera to take a picture or Filters to select a photo from your Camera Roll. This will bring you to a Message window that allows you to post to Twitter. Tap the Filters button to enter Aviary’s editor, and voila — your photo is ready to be edited and shared.

We’re always happy to partner with apps that make your life easier and your mobile experience that more fun, and iSocialize does it fantastically. Check out iSocialize on the iTunes App Store today!

Mobile Spotlight: Snapr

We recently launched our photo-editing SDK, a mobile version of our popular web-based simple photo editor. Developers of mobile applications can now add our photo editor’s powerful functionality into any iPhone or Android app with just a few lines of code! Read on to see what Snapr did with our tools, or check out the rest of our partners to see how they’re putting our editor to use.

Many consider cartography a lost art, but Snapr’s new iOS app combines old school technique with modern day technology. With GPS and geotags, Snapr enables users to create photographic maps that are organized by place (latest photos taken in a given part of town) and time (images that were all taken around the same time).

Download the iPhone app now!

There are multiple viewing methods for maps, which means users can toggle between various maps with images from the entire Snapr community, people they follow, or just themselves. Additionally, Snapr keeps track of popular activity from major cities around the world. Its sharing functionality allows users to contribute to these maps, but also connects to other social platforms such as Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, and foursquare.

To see Aviary’s editing tools at work within the Snapr app, simply take a picture — we’ll start with this adorable glamour shot of our office dog, Pubby.

The rest is a breeze. Add text, tap the edit button, tweak your photo accordingly, and watch as your fixed image magically joins the local image ecosystem!

Thanks to Snapr, visual cartography is now in the hands of the people — we’re very proud of our partnership and can’t wait to see more Aviary-edited images begin to populate the mobile maps of the world.

Aviary at NYC BigApps 3.0

Yesterday’s sold-out New York Tech Meetup was eventful for reasons other than demos or the attendance of Mayor Bloomberg. NYC BigApps 3.0, a city-centric hackathon, was announced for the weekend of November 11-13 at Pivotal Labs, where hackers will use publicly-released city data to build mobile and web applications that are equally cool and useful — yet another example of the intersection of tech and municipal good! Learn more about NYC BigApps 3.0 on their blog, or read it on TechCrunch.

We’re thrilled to be one of the sponsors of NYC BigApps, along with other awesome startups like Bit.ly, Etsy, Foursquare, and Tumblr.

The competition demonstrates the city’s continued support of technical entrepreneurship with its generosity ($50,000 in cash prizes) and the incredible opportunities it provides: two slots to present at NYTM, two TechStars finalist slots, and the chance to demo in front of the likes of John Borthwick (Betaworks), Chris Dixon (Hunch), Naveen Selvadurai (foursquare), David Tisch (TechStars), and Fred Wilson (Union Square Ventures).

Our API has been used to create some awesome stuff in multiple hackathons in the past, including Photo Hack Day and hackNY. Check out our API on our developers site to start brainstorming ways to put our editing tools to use — truly good use.

At Aviary, we wholeheartedly believe in democratizing and empowering the online creative space. It naturally follows that we support NYC BigApps 3.0 in its mission to bring social good and the infinite possibilities of tech together. Register here: hope to see you there!

Purveyors of arm candy and footwear aficionados with not enough closet space to spare, this one’s for you. Online communities celebrating designer handbags and shoes have brought droves of the Louboutin-crazed to their websites, but Snapette is here to change the game.

Download the free iPhone app now!

With the launch of their new iOS app, Snapette is putting the ability to admire the hottest accessories in the palm of your hand, and Aviary’s mobile editor is ready to help your photos of such coveted goods look like they belong in a fashion editorial. (Yes, handbags are worthy of close-ups, too.)

To see Aviary’s mobile editor work its magic in Snapette’s app, take a photo of your handbag or shoe of choice, then tap the enhance button to enter Aviary’s editor. From there, you can choose to add effects or change the brightness, contrast, and saturation.

All that’s left to do is to add details about the brand, where you saw it, how much it cost, and a brief description! The rest of the Snapette community will be able to “ooh” and “aah” along with you, even if they’re on the other side of the world.

The world of mobile apps just got a little bit more fashionable, thanks to Snapette, and the Aviary team is more than happy to help. Way to keep it classy (…or edgy, or funky, or whatever your sartorial sense desires), Snapette users!

Aviary’s iOS SDK is now universal: iPhone and iPad support!

You may have heard once or 10 times on our blog that we’ve launched a little something called the Aviary Mobile SDK, which allows developers to add our one-click photo editing tools to their mobile apps with just a few lines of code. Today we’re pleased to bring our partners the most-requested update so far: a universal build of our iOS SDK, which adds support for iPad apps!

Our iPad editor has support for landscape and portrait modes, and it lets you choose which form factor you want to use (the full screen iPad editor, or the smaller iPhone interface within your app). Our partners over at PicCollage did a great job of seamlessly integrating the iPhone interface, so it overlays various pictures throughout the screen.

Our mobile SDK is free to implement in your own app, so head over to our developer site and sign up for access to our brand new universal iOS SDK. Implementation takes just minutes, so your users will be editing and enhancing their photos from right within your app in no time!

Here are some more screenshots for your viewing pleasure. As always, feel free to email us at api@aviary.com if you have any questions or comments!

Five more awesome filters added to Aviary’s Cloud API

The filters in Aviary’s Cloud API can be used alone through our server or integrated into our web/mobile SDKs. Add them to your app or website, or try them out with any pic you want!

We’ve just added another handful of new effects to our Cloud API – some of our personal favorites to date, actually.

Read on to see the details, or jump right to our developer site to check out the full list!

Note: even if you’re not a developer, you can still use these awesome effects on your photos! Eventually they’ll all be available in our embeddable editors for web and mobile, but until then you can use them through our developer site. Just upload the photo of your choice and go!

Mobile Spotlight: Picsicle

We recently launched our photo-editing SDK, a mobile version of our popular web-based simple photo editor. Developers of mobile applications can now add our photo editor’s powerful functionality into any iPhone or Android app with just a few lines of code! Read on to see what Picsicle did with our tools, or check out the rest of our partners to see how they’re putting our editor to use.

Our friends at Sincerely just launched the Sincerely Ship Library for iOS, which makes adding photo printing and postcard functionality to your app as easy as including a library.

Leveraging Sincerely and Aviary’s APIs, Frank Denbow — founder of StartupThreads, organizer of StartupWeekend, and curator of StartupDigest — has created Picsicle. The iOS app is a new way of turning your memories, in the form of mobile photos, into something tangible.

Download the iPhone app now!

In case you haven’t noticed by now, Aviary loves simple, streamlined workflows. Like our mobile editor and the rest of the products in Sincerely’s awesome suite, Picsicle is absolutely intuitive to use.

The process is as simple as taking a photo (or uploading an existing one) and editing the image using our wide range of tools. Picsicle features Aviary’s effects, stickers, text, brightness, and more, while Sincerely takes care of the printing and shipping. $1.99 is all it takes to turn the photos on your phone into a 4×6 postcard that can be shared with anyone around the world. You heard us right: Anyone! Anywhere! We’re not heavy users of hyperbole, but it is literally that easy.

So now you get why we’re big fans, right?

The ability to capture specific moments is something that the camera phone has brought to millions of people worldwide. Picsicle offers its users one more step: the ability to customize those moments in ways that are creative and unique before sharing them. Pictures can break free of being one component of an image stream, and you can enjoy the satisfaction of sharing your memories, in tangible form, with the people who will enjoy them the most.

We’ve been waiting a long time to see Sincerely’s Ship Library in action, and think Picsicle is a great way to demonstrate what the library is capable of. Aviary is proud to partner with Picsicle’s efforts to bring a welcome surprise to your loved ones.

Mobile Spotlight: BFF Photo

We recently launched our photo-editing SDK, a mobile version of our popular web-based simple photo editor. Developers of mobile applications can now add our photo editor’s powerful functionality into any iPhone or Android app with just a few lines of code! Read on to see what BFFPhoto did with our tools, or check out the rest of our partners to see how they’re putting our editor to use.

We first met Carmen, the creator of BFFPhoto, at Photo Hack Day this summer. Carmen has created a one-app-does-all approach to handling photos on Android; BFFPhoto enables you to view, comment, tag, interact with Facebook, upload, and — you guessed it — edit your photos via Aviary’s mobile editor.

Download the Android app here!

Uploading, editing, and saving photos can be done within taps: one to upload, one to pick a photo, one to open the editing tools. A few more taps are needed to make your photos ready for sharing — use our one-touch tools for instant results in the BFFPhoto app itself!

We love that BFFPhoto has consolidated so many useful functions into a single place. With the mobile integration of Aviary’s tools, BFFPhoto is bringing our piece of the editing pie to Android users everywhere.

Want to know more about BFFPhoto? Check out Carmen’s blog. Curious about how he integrated Aviary’s mobile SDK to an Android app? He’s got a post about that – and a video of the editing process, too!
